Washington DC News anchor, Shawn Yancy started her Girls’ Night Out events in 2010 as a way to help charities that promote the well being of women & children.
“The very first Girls’ Night Out happened in my dining room with a handful of my girlfriends. I came up with the idea of swapping the clothing we no longer wanted or could no longer fit, and whatever was left over, would be donated to charity. The first year, we donated the clothes to a Liberian village. The second year, we donated the clothes to Dress For Success DC.
Over the years we donated thousands dollars and thousands of women’s professional and casual clothing items and accessories to multiple charities across the Washington, DC region. I knew we were doing good in our community, but I also knew we could be doing so much more.”

In 2019, Girls’ Night Out by Shawn Yancy Inc. became a registered non-profit organization known as the Giving Foundation for Women and Children Inc. Our mission to empower the lives and transform the futures of underserved women and children stayed the same; but now we have the tools to execute our new goals to grow our outreach, provide support, expand our key programs and our commitment to the hundreds of women and children we serve each year.
